A safe, also known as a strongbox or safe, is a secure container with anti-theft and fireproof functions. It originated in medieval Europe as a wooden cabinet used to store valuables.
Safes were developed into metal safes in the early 19th century, with industrial production beginning in 1818 by the British company CHUBB. In the 1960s, electronic combination locks became widespread, and intelligent technologies such as fingerprint recognition and network alarms were subsequently applied, forming a multi-functional product system encompassing anti-theft, fireproof, and anti-magnetic features.
Since 2005, China has implemented the national 3C certification system for safes. Products are classified into six security levels, from A1 to C, according to the national standard GB10409-2001. Class C safes must withstand 60 minutes of destructive attacks. When purchasing, pay attention to the cabinet thickness (8-10 mm for the door panel), lock type, and installation requirements. Electronic safes are equipped with automatic alarm functions, triggered by movement, impact, or three incorrect code combinations.
